MELANIE'S FINE FOODS STILL COOKIN' AFTER 5 YEARS San Carlos, CA (www.bigacres.com), June, 2007 - Six years ago, Kent and Melanie Yunk lost their jobs in the dot-com crash in Silicon Valley, California. They started Melanie's Fine Foods, an all-natural gourmet foods and cookware company in Northern California. This year marks the company's 5th anniversary - a feat that some thought would never happen. Founders Melanie and Kent Yunk started the company in 2002, after the dot-com crash that left them "vacationing endlessly". Melanie was an engineer and consultant in the semiconductor industry and Kent worked as an online marketing director at a dot-com startup. After six months of unemployment, the food-obsessed couple purchased the rights to the Big Acres® Sauces line of all-natural gourmet sauces that included two barbeque sauces and one teriyaki marinade. The products sold mainly in Northern California in approximately 75 retail stores. "Skeptics said we would never succeed; that sauce businesses were a 'dime a dozen'," said Melanie. But Melanie and Kent, with their infinite energy, took their new products on the road selling to any store owner who would stop long enough to listen. They sold their products at a local farmers market, boutique fundraisers and the Fancy Food Shows in San Francisco and New York. Since that time, Melanie used her passion for cooking and grilling healthy food to produce a total of six award-winning all-natural sauces and three tasty gourmet rubs. The company also sells grilling and cooking accessories, such as the SAVU Smoker Bag and CitrusBlaster Fruit Injector. Their wares are sold to hundreds of retail outlets in 44 states and thousands of consumers via their website, www.bigacres.com. Melanie's focus is to create products that help families make simple, healthy, mouth-watering gourmet meals every day of the week. Melanie said, "Our newest flavors include unusual combinations such as mangos and peaches combined with cumin, bell peppers and onions, a traditional peanut sauce spiced up with Chipotle peppers, and an authentic ready-to-pour Mexican mole." "We like to bring unusual flavor combinations to the table to delight our customers," she said. Stop by the Big Acres Sauces / Melanie's Fine Foods booth at the 2007 Summer Fancy Food Show at the Javitz Convention Center in New York, New York. Melanie will be cooking with her new products on July 8th through the 10th in booth No. 4644. ABOUT MELANIE’S FINE FOODS, INC.
