Big Acres'Update
(06/17/2002)
So What's Up with the BBQ Biz Anyway?
New Product Arrives!
On May 8, 9, and 10, our first batch (1,600 cases) of sauces were born!
Kent and I traveled to Gilroy, CA to watch the process. The entire town
smelled like Big Acres' We came home with warm bottles of sauce, and
made our first cash sale (1 case) to Whole Life Foods in downtown San
Carlos! We had to break open cases and mix the flavors, as this small
store wants to try them out before they make a larger investment.
Our stock was shipped to a warehouse in San Francisco where it
lives until purchased and picked up by one of our two distributors.
We have a Marketing Department, too!
Kent and our friend, Ed, developed a 4-color brochure, laminated "shelf
talkers", 4-color business cards, and 4-color product descriptions and
price lists (for in-store demonstrations and the farmer's market).
We're meeting with our web agency, Bold Focus, next week to start the
development of our web-site. (There's just one page up there now with
an email address.)
Farmer's Market
Beginning on Saturdays in May, Melanie's Fine Foods has been a regular
presence at the Redwood City Farmer's Market, run by the RWC Kiwanis
Club. We're out there at 7 a.m. selling our goods! The market provides
awesome market research opportunities -- mostly people dropping by to
tell us they ONLY buy Big Acres sauces or that they LOVE our sauces! We
handout samples, sell a few bottles and hand out store lists as well!
Melanie's nephew, Jeremy Hawran, and a family friend, Carol Armanino,
are rallying to help out on Saturdays as well!
Special Promotions
In the month of June, we're running store ads for Draeger's, Key
Markets, and Lunardi's. We've also hired people to perform 13 in-store
demonstrations. Kent attended the first and second demos at JJ&F
Markets in Palo Alto and Draeger's in Menlo Park. He was very pleased
with the performance and had a chance to talk with many customers!
What's next?
Kent is doing a little high tech consulting on the side, and Melanie
continues to work the business full time. Hopefully, you'll all be
eating Big Acres Sauces instead of ketchup!
Please remember to reply to this email to let us know that
you'd like to be left on the mailing list!!!
Thanks for reading our news!
