About Melanie's Fine Foods
Melanie's Fine Foods was founded in 2002 by Melanie and Kent Yunk, two former dot-comers from Silicon Valley. We manufacture the award-winning Big Acres Gourmet Sauces and Spices & Rubs and distribute gourmet goodies for the kitchen and grill. Kent and Melanie attribute the direct success of their business to Melanie's 13 years of international high-technology experience and her passion for gourmet food, along with Kent's award-winning marketing knowledge.
Our mission is to provide mouth-watering, healthy, great tasting, crowd-pleasing gourmet products to consumers worldwide.
Our award-winning line of Big Acres® Gourmet Foods is all natural, preservative- and MSG-free. We focus on locally grown ingredients when possible as well as the use of recycled content in our packaging. We recently changed our sauce packaging to a bottle that uses less glass material to reduce waste. Melanie personally inspects each ingredient in every batch to insure the quality of our products.
Melanie's Fine Foods was one of the first companies in San Mateo County, California, to acquire certification as a green business in The Bay Area Green Business program. We are very proud of our green practices in solid waste diversion, energy efficiency, water conservation and pollution prevention in our San Carlos, California office.
We were was also awarded national certification as a Women's Business Enterprise by Astra Women's Business Alliance, a regional certifying partner of the Women's Business Enterprise National Council (WBENC). WBENC's national certification is a meticulous process including an in-depth review of the business and site inspection. The process is designed to certify that the business is at least 51% owned, operated and controlled by a woman or women.
Melanie Yunk, President of Melanie's Fine Foods, is the creator of the award-winning Big Acres® Gourmet Sauces and distributor of gourmet goodies for kitchen & grill. A "foodie" her whole life, Melanie has always been obsessed with simple, healthy, gourmet food. During her previous career as an electronics engineer, she traveled worldwide and was privileged to sample many different ethnic dishes. She acquired a discriminating palate for a multitude of different tastes and a passion for experimentation.
After 13 years as an electronics engineer for Honeywell and Intel, and as an independent consultant in the semiconductor industry, she decided to combine her business and entrepreneurial skills with her obsession with great food. Melanie's move to the food business has enabled her to live her dream every day. Melanie is a California native. She lives with her husband Kent in San Carlos, California.
